Nicole Perry is an exceptional educator and leader whom I have had the privilege of knowing for over 15 years. I first came to know Ms. Perry as a new teacher working under her guidance and leadership when she served as Principal of P.S. 309. From the very beginning, her mentorship had a profound and lasting impact on both my professional and personal growth.

Ms. Perry consistently challenged and supported me to expand my practice as an educator. She encouraged me to teach across different grade levels over the years, deliberately broadening the scope of my pedagogical skills. She also insisted that I become actively involved in various school committees, including the School Leadership Team (SLT), which deepened my understanding of collaborative school leadership.

Her belief in my potential pushed me to pursue leadership opportunities I may not have otherwise considered. She encouraged and supported me in applying to the New Leaders Program and later guided me to join LEAP—experiences that ultimately set me on the path toward becoming a school administrator.

Ms. Perry has also had a significant impact on my personal growth. She has helped me become more confident and outspoken in both my professional and personal life. She has taught me the importance of prioritizing service to others, even in situations where recognition or gratitude is not given. Through her example, she instilled in me the value of humility—reminding me that no task is too big or too small, and that no responsibility is above or below me.

Ms. Perry has always impressed me with her exceptional ability to communicate. She speaks with gentleness, compassion, and understanding, while still maintaining high expectations. As a leader, she skillfully asks thoughtful questions that promote reflection and growth, fostering both personal and professional development in those around her.

Her passion for teaching and learning is evident in all that she does, but it is matched—if not surpassed—by her dedication to coaching others and helping them become the best versions of themselves. She is a remarkable leader who consistently leaves a lasting impact on her colleagues and the communities she serves.

Children's Author Visits & Literacy Programs

NYC DOE

On World Read Aloud Day, The Horizons Edge and Nicole Perry delivered a truly magical experience to our PS 250 community in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Over three hundred students, teachers, and staff joined to hear her read Little Levi's BIG ROAR, a clever story that celebrates courage, resilience, and the discovery of one's inner strengths.

Nicole's warmth and energy filled the virtual space, turning our Zoom call into an adventure and a celebration of reading and belonging. The students were literally leaning forward on the edges of their chairs (or their carpet spaces), and teachers appreciated how seamlessly she infused SEL lessons into the fun.

What made the day truly extraordinary was Nicole herself. She has an innate ability to connect with students of every age - a superpower that makes every child feel seen, heard, and celebrated. As she answered questions, Nicole transformed simple curiosities into moments of thoughtful dialogue and affirmation.

She is not only a gifted author but also a phenomenal educator who moves through the complexities of any school system with grace and purpose. Her "why" is beautifully clear: she cares deeply about kids. The joy she sparked during her visit continues to echo through our classrooms—kids often reach for "Little Levi's BIG ROAR" as their first choice.
